Goochland Powhatan Community Services is seeking 1 Full Time ES Clinician. GPCS has 2 clinics located in Goochland and Powhatan counties which are open Monday- Friday 8am-4:30p.


This position has a great opportunity for those who like a variety of work. We are a small but mighty
team. Our ES clinicians don’t have any on-call , evenings, or weekend duties. Responsibilities include
crisis intervention services, pre-admission screening evaluations for hospitalization, crisis counseling,
and providing information and referrals. While our volume is lower than our neighboring CSBs, we have
plenty of unit tasks to keep us busy. We provide hospital liaison services, assist with Same Day Access
assessments, and carry a small outpatient therapy caseload. This position allows for the best of both
worlds, helping solve immediate needs and having opportunities to provide longer term services.

We are seeking someone with experience working with individuals with mental health, substance use,
and/or developmental disability. Clinicals skills required include risk assessment, safety planning and
crisis intervention. Other skills and abilities include managing stressful working environments,
interfacing with multiple behavioral health partners including first responders, and working
independently as well as fitting into a team office setting. Services are provided primarily in the office,
but also occur in the community. We currently use Credible for our EHR, as well as Microsoft office
suite. Master’s Degree in human services field and License or License Eligible required. Certified
Pre-screener highly preferred.

Starting salary is negotiable based on prescreener certification and experience. Unlicensed starting salary: $57,000; licensed starting salary: $63,000. DEFINITION

 

Under supervision of the Senior Clinical Director, this position is responsible for providing short-term crisis intervention counseling, clinical assessments, hospital pre-screening and outpatient treatment for individuals suffering from mental illness, substance use disorders and/or intellectual disability. This position serves as a hospital liaison for consumers who are hospitalized at local or state psychiatric hospitals.  This position assists with Same Day Access, which incorporates completing initial diagnostic assessments for child, adolescent, and adult consumers experiencing behavioral health illnesses and disorders in a Same Day Access model of service.  The Emergency Services Lead Clinician will be responsible for determining eligibility for services and level of care, assigning consumers to the appropriate service, and scheduling first appointments with the appropriate service providers.  The Emergency Services Lead Clinician will assist in referring individuals to outside resources as appropriate. This position may provide brief mental health therapy or other services to a small caseload of consumers. In addition, as a Lead, the incumbent will provide oversight of the clinical delivery of emergency service/crisis intervention services including assisting with quality assurance activities. This position is a licensed position.  As an exempt position, the Emergency Services Lead Clinician is expected to be available as needed and may occasionally work after business hours.  This is not regularly scheduled.

 

 JOB EXPECTATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide crisis intervention services including prescreening evaluations, clinical evaluation, conduct collateral contacts as appropriate, referral for appropriate community and regional services, and provide follow-up services to consumers experiencing psychiatric distress, including monitoring, and case management, as needed.
  • Participate in commitment hearings for Goochland and Powhatan residents, as needed and coordinate activities with other community services boards related to the commitment process.
  • Monitor consumers hospitalized with Region IV Acute Care Project funding and coordinate with the regional office and hospitals.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with Sheriff’s Department, magistrates, hospitals, and other community agencies/persons and coordinate with providers to include GPCS representation on emergency response teams in Goochland and Powhatan.
  • Assist, monitor availability, and track utilization of local community inpatient beds, including maintaining the Hospital Log or other tracking and reporting systems.
  • Triage consumers who present in acute crisis or seeking services and urgent scheduling for those in priority SUD populations.
  • Provide clinical, diagnostic assessments for child, adolescent and adult consumers.
  • Assess and determine consumers’ level of care for services.
  • Assign consumers to the appropriate agency service(s) and schedule initial appointment(s).
  • Initiate individualized service plans in collaboration with consumers.
  • May provide brief therapy or services to a small caseload of consumers, including coordinating with other agency programs or outside providers.
  • Maintain administrative and clinical documentation as required in the delivery of services (i.e., service documentation, correspondence, treatment plans, quarterly progress reports, etc.) and entering information accurately in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Report direct service and other time spent in clinical activities in a timely manner.
  • Provide consultation, education, and community awareness programs to community organizations and individuals.
  • Assure the confidentiality of protected health information as required by law and according to the GPCS confidentiality policies, state law, and the Federal Drug and Alcohol Confidentiality Law, 42 CFR Part 2, as applicable. 
  • Provide information when necessary and clinically appropriate, with current and valid authorizations to release information concerning consumers’ attendance and progress in treatment to courts, criminal justice agencies, departments of Social Services, and other entities that may be responsible for monitoring the consumer.
  • Attend in-service training sessions, conferences, workshops, seminars related to the provision of clinical services for professional and program development.
  • Participate in state, regional, and local councils, associations, and work groups.
  • Provide clinical oversight of the delivery of emergency/crisis intervention services including quality assurance activities
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary within established policy and procedures.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree, Licensed in Virginia.

 

EXPERIENCE

Clinical experience in mental health with knowledge and/or experience of co-occurring treatment preferred that may include supervised clinical internships and field placements with a provider of mental health and/or co-occurring disorders. At least 2 years of significant experience in crisis services including providing Preadmission Screening and TDO’s.

 

LICENSE(S)

Licensed Mental Health Professional (LCSW, LCP or LPC).

Certified Preadmission Screening Clinician Certification or ability to become certified within six-month probationary period required.

Position will be required to possess a valid Virginia driver's license

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

 

Work environment will typically be working in a clinic office setting, but may include community settings, such as hospitals, sheriff’s departments, and state facilities.   Work environment will involve traveling within the community and will include exposure to road hazards usually experienced in driving in rural, county surroundings, interstate highway driving, including exposure to weather and temperature extremes that may affect driving conditions.   May involve exposure to aggressive verbal and physical behavior, and exposure to infectious diseases from others.
