Position Summary
Gothenburg Health is seeking a full-time Lab Supervisor.
The laboratory supervisor manages the day to day operations of the laboratory, including instrument function, test procedures, performance of testing personnel, and maintaining adequate supplies. The supervisor serves as a liaison, and effectively deals with challenges and conflict between the lab and the healthcare provider, other team members, clients, and the community as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
Accountabilities
Supports lab personnel by being accessible at all times either on-site, or by telephone or electronic communication to resolve technical or personnel issues.
Develops and monitors pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical procedures to define acceptable levels of performance.
Investigates and implements remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications and ensures test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
Evaluates and documents performance of testing personnel to assess competency.
Evaluates quality control data in order to detect and correct deficiencies in the test procedure thereby ensuring quality and reliable test results.
Establishes proficiency testing programs to assess lab performance and comply with all applicable regulations.
Integrates new instrumentation and establishes new procedures to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare providers and patients.
Guides the training and orientation of lab staff to ensure competency.
Maintains inventory levels and interacts with suppliers to ensure the availability of testing supplies in the most economically sound manner.
Participates in interdepartmental meetings to represent the lab in achieving common goals related to the overall outcome of the patient.
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree or associate degree in medical laboratory technology from an accredited program.
Certification through ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists). Certification obtained in 2004 or later must maintain a minimum of 36 contact hours of continuing education every three years.
Preferred experience as a lab supervisor in a moderate complexity, accredited laboratory.
Sufficient lab experience in a moderate complexity, accredited laboratory will be considered.
