Summary: The Director of Senior Services/Lifelong Montclair is responsible for continuation of the “Lifelong Montclair” initiative, focused on transforming Montclair from a good place to live into a great place to grow older, by planning, developing and implementing services and programs for senior citizens. The Director will function as the point person for the initiative, working closely with community partners, funders, a steering committee, working groups, consultants, support staff and various Township Departments and employees. Initial and ongoing tasks include advocating for programs, services and interventions that promote Montclair as an elder-friendly community, working with community partners and supervising daily operations of Lifelong Montclair. Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Health and Human Services, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.
Duties: Collaborates effectively with a wide variety of audiences to guide program strategy and direction. Involves local community leaders in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of Lifelong Montclair services and programs and serves as liaison between the Township Department of Health and Human Services and community senior groups. Completes tasks required to maintain age-friendly designation through AARP and the World Health Organization. Documents and disseminates effective tools, strategies and approaches; performs program monitoring and evaluation; identifies grants and funding sources and is involved in grant writing and application processes. Interprets objectives and policies of the local Health Department; creates and stimulates a public awareness of the needs of older residents; maintains records and files and prepares reports, correspondence, press releases and written materials regarding the programs and functions of the Lifelong Montclair activities.
Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree, supplemented with a graduate degree in a field related to the position, such as Gerontology, Social Services, Public Health, Community Health Education, Nursing or a related health field. Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience assessing senior citizen, aging and/or elder services, and community organizing preferred. Direct experience with agencies/organizations providing programs/services targeting older residents of Montclair especially valued. Must have leadership skills and collaborative spirit to effectively lead and support a strong, motivated group of partner organizations. Identification and development of funding sources, grant writing, and social media competency required. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage diverse teams on community development projects preferred. Must be proficient in the Microsoft suite, Word, Excel, Powerpoint; must possess excellent strategic planning and management skills. Will require off hours availability to work nights and weekends as situations warrant.
Salary: $86,827 per year
