Firefighter/Paramedic
The Town of Orange recently invested in significant wage increases supporting their Fire/EMS employees and we are excited to post the following job announcement:
The Orange Fire-Rescue-EMS Agency is accepting applications for the position of full-time Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic to fill one immediate vacancy and establish an eligibility list for three vacancies to be filled after 07/01/2023. Applicants who are currently enrolled in an accredited Paramedic training program are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates who are not chosen for these positions will be placed on an eligibility list for a minimum of 24 months.
Orange Fire-Rescue-EMS is seeking confident, motivated individuals who work well with others to provide outstanding service to the citizens of Orange and surrounding communities. Our organization provides emergency and non-emergent services to a population of approximately 7,800 residents throughout a 36 square-mile primary response area. Our Advanced Life Support ambulances serve the citizens of Orange as well as the towns of Erving, New Salem, Warwick, and Wendell exceeding a population of 10,000 throughout a 100-square mile response area. Combined fire/EMS responses exceed 2,400 calls for service annually.
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, must not use tobacco products, posses a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, submit to an extensive background check, posses a valid Massachusetts Paramedic certification (minimum one-year experience with a transporting ALS service preferred), and complete a pre-employment medical examination/physical agility test including drug screening; the Town of Orange shall pay for medical examination. Candidates must be certified Firefighter I/II or have the ability to complete the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit Training Program upon hire. Preference will be given to candidates with firefighting experience. Candidates must also reside within 15 miles of the Town of Orange within two years of appointment.
Upon appointment, qualified candidates will be assigned to a Group working a rotating schedule of 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty averaging 56 hours per week.
Weekly compensation includes 53 hours of regular hourly wages and 3 hours of time and one half.
Starting base salary is $72,066.80-$79,273.48 annually DOQ.
Additional compensation is available in the form of step increases, educational incentives, holiday pay, etc. for qualified candidates in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Orange and the Orange Career Firefighters IAFF Local 4569.
